Dovetail joint

A series of pins cut at the end of one piece interlock with a series of tails cut into the end of another piece.

The dovetail joint is commonly used in woodworking joinery including furniture, cabinets and traditional timber framing.

It is noted for its resistance to being pulled apart (tensile strength) and, among other uses, is commonly used to join the sides of a drawer to the front.
