Finger joint

A finger joint is made by cutting a set of matching rectangular cuts in two pieces of wood. The amount of material removed is equal to half the thickness of the pieces being joined. When cuts have been made, the two pieces are then glued.

To visualise a finger joint simply interlock the fingers of your hands at a ninety degree angle; This is where the name "finger joint" comes from.

It is stronger than a butt joint but not as strong as a dovetail joint.
